Rommel Mendoza (he/him), Program Associate

Prior to joining Sunstone in Fall 2024, Rommel worked as a Policy Research Fellow at the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Initiative (LPPI), where he researched the effects of COVID-19 on Latino microbusinesses in California. In this role, he explored the obstacles that small businesses encountered in shifting to clean energy, deepening his existing interest in climate policy and justice.

Before his fellowship at LPPI, he served as a Government Affairs intern at Marvell Technologies in Washington, D.C., focusing on artificial intelligence regulations and R&D incentivization for the fabless semiconductor design industry.

Rommel graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in Political Science and Chicano Studies. During his time at UCLA, he actively engaged in community initiatives and organizations such as the UCLA Community Programs Office that highlighted the importance of policy representation for marginalized groups, especially within the Latino community.

Based in his hometown of Garden Grove, California, Rommel enjoys playing soccer, working out at the gym, traveling, and volunteering in his community during his free time.
