CLEAN CARS

Transportation is the largest source of climate and air pollution in the country. If you’ve heard of the nation’s “clean cars” standards, you’ve heard of Sunstone’s work. We’ve been generating headlines to support the transition to zero-emission vehicles for more than a decade, from securing the nation’s strongest fuel economy and emissions standards, to fighting their rollback, to pushing for the policies and funding that will phase out the internal combustion engine once and for all. We’ve successfully illustrated the health, economic and climate benefits of state vehicle standards, leading to their adoption in more than a dozen states. 

ELECTRIC TRUCKS

Sunstone led communications to pass the nation’s first zero-emission truck standard in California in 2020, a huge step forward in addressing the air pollution crisis in “diesel-death zones”, where freeways, ports and warehousing facilities have risen up around residents. Sunstone took this campaign national in 2021, supporting six states representing 20% of the nation’s trucks market in the move to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty trucks.

GAS TRANSITION

Methane gas is a key source of indoor and outdoor air pollution that threatens the health of millions of people. It’s also a powerful fossil fuel and the nation’s largest growing source of climate pollution. From transportation, to buildings, to the power sector - Sunstone is leading campaigns to replace gas with reliable and affordable clean energy. In the process, we’re exposing astroturfing, greenwashing and the corruption of utilities and fossil fuel companies hellbent on expanding use of this dangerous product. 

POLLUTION-FREE BUILDINGS

We think everyone deserves healthy, climate-resilient homes, and Sunstone has supported the movement to pollution-free buildings from its inception. From launching the Building Decarbonization Coalition and supporting Berkeley’s first-in-the-nation gas ban, to now supporting coalitions that have secured gas phase outs in close to 70 jurisdictions across seven states, we’ll keep pushing until everyone is safe from the dangers of gas. We work to illustrate the benefits of electrification and clean energy appliances in mainstream news media as well as life and style press in key states and across the country.
